Opera has been one of the most popular internet browsers for the past decade, but has become even more popular since it began adding various changes a few years ago. Most recently, it added support for cryptocurrencies, with Ethereum and its ERC-20 tokens becoming the first to be supported.
However, Opera has indicated that it does not intend to stop there, and now users of its mobile browser will be very happy to learn that Opera has decided to add support for two new cryptocurrencies - Bitcoin and TRON. Support for both cryptocurrencies will be released with the new Android version of the browser.
BTC and TRX Now Available in Opera Mobile Browser
As mentioned before, until now Opera only supported ETH and ERC-20 tokens. It added support for these cryptocurrencies only last year. However, with prices constantly rising and Bitcoin and TRON becoming among the most popular coins in the industry, it is not surprising that the Norwegian software company decided to add them.
The price of Bitcoin was over $13,000, then saw a correction, and even now, it is still well above $11,000. Everyone wants to buy Bitcoin, believing that the next stop for its price will be either its previous high or a new high.
Meanwhile, TRON is increasingly becoming a competitor to Ethereum in terms of dApps and its popularity. As it attracts many users, its blockchain has attracted developers from the entire cryptocurrency industry, many of whom also want to buy TRON. Not only that, but both coins still have a very high volume of transactions and are currently ranked as the 5th (BTC) and 6th (TRX) busiest blockchains in the industry. In other words, it is understandable that Opera chose to add these two coins.
However, Android users are not the only ones who benefit from this new initiative. Opera also launched support for iOS in June, and Apple users may also get almost the same benefits in a few months. All of this is part of Opera's plan to help the Internet evolve and reach the next stage - Web 3.0.
Opera becomes leader in cryptocurrency in browsers
Even though Opera is not one of the biggest browsers, it is certainly one of the biggest. However, even so, it is still a leader in cryptocurrency integration. Despite Apple’s introduction of CryptoKit, it does not offer a real wallet for Safari. The same is true for Chrome and Bing, but while they seem to be hesitant to “go crypto”, Opera is fully supporting this new industry.
In fact, the only real competition to Opera is the Brave browser and the blockchain phone that Samsung is currently developing.
As for Brave, it is a browser that uses and promotes the Basic Attention Token (BAT). BAT is an ERC-20 token used to reward browser users who choose to view ads that are usually hidden by the browser's built-in ad blocking features. In addition, Brave currently only supports desktop-based payment integration.
As for Opera, its latest version is still in beta. However, it already allows users to send and receive both currencies and view their transaction history.
Mobile users are already more familiar with cryptocurrency payments than they were a year ago, and even more so than they were a few years ago. However, most user interfaces are still not as intuitive and easy to use as they could be. However, over time these issues will also be resolved, and Opera will likely be the first browser to achieve this, as no other browser is really doing anything in terms of cryptocurrency at the moment.
