Over the past month, the Base network’s BRETT has surged 348%, allowing it to briefly surpass BONK in the past 24 hours to become the sixth-largest meme coin by market cap.
As of 2:37 a.m. ET, BRETT experienced a 9% decline and was trading at $0.161. BRETT is currently ranked seventh with a market cap of $1.6 billion, slightly behind BONK. It hit an all-time high of $0.193 on June 9.
BRETT memecoin surpasses BOME, TRUMP
Its recent rally has seen it surpass popular memecoins including BOME and MAGA (TRUMP).
BRETT was launched in February 2024 as a character from Matt Furie's comic book "Boy's Club". Its humorous and easy-to-understand background helped it rise among Base tokens and become the largest cryptocurrency in Coinbase's second-layer network.
Some traders speculate that BRETT has the potential to surpass PEPE as usage of the Base network increases.
Base is now the second largest Ethereum layer 2
BRETT’s gains come as the Base network became the second-largest Ethereum layer 2 with $7.3 billion in total locked value, according to L2Beat.
Base has surpassed Optimism’s OP Mainnet with a total locked value of $70.9 billion. Arbitrum is the largest Ethereum scaling network with a total locked value of $18 billion.
The Base network was launched in August 2023. The current total locked value is nearly 10 times the $742 million released on January 1 this year.
Base’s rapid growth follows the explosion of memecoin mania on the network, sparking the rise of memecoins including DEGEN (market cap $191 million) and TOSHI (market cap $168 million).
Base network presales are also on the rise, with one of the hottest newcomers, Base Dawgz (DAWGZ), raising nearly $1 million in less than a week after its launch. Some analysts say DAWGZ could be the next 100x coin.
