Changpeng Zhao, aka CZ, just shared a photo of a dog named Broccoli, and almost immediately, the $BROCCOLI token went viral on the BNB chain.
$B BROCCOLI COIN MAY BE THE NEXT 100X MEME COIN. The official Broccoli token website is: broccolitoken.iotoo.
Since its launch a few minutes ago, the $BROCCOLI token has surged to $0.0100397 with a market cap of $2.05 million.
Interested parties can obtain the contract address of this new memecoin on DexTools and purchase it using your favorite BNB-compliant wallet, such as Best Wallet.
The Story of Broccoli
A year and a half ago, I was chatting with a friend who owns a (real) zoo in Dubai. Out of curiosity, I asked what dog breeds would be suitable for the hot summers in Dubai. I had no plans to get a dog.
That evening my doorbell rang and a young Belgian Malinois appeared in front of me… pic.twitter.com/vSLiHiS4fC — CZ BNB (@cz_binance) February 13, 2025
From TST to $BROCCOLI: The story behind the CZ dog meme coin
So how did we get here? It all started with the TST token created for a Binance tutorial — never intended to be traded, but which reached a market cap of $500 million and then collapsed.
Although CZ told the world that the coin had nothing to do with him, Chinese speculators began a buying frenzy, driving up the price.
On February 9, CZ posted a long message on X, once again distancing himself from the TST token (which was already listed on Binance at this point). This time, he delved into where we are as an industry with regards to memecoins and the speculation they attract.
Here is part of what he said, starting from point 6.1:
6.1 Over the past four years, a powerful regulator has sued almost everyone who holds any utility tokens, falsely claiming they are securities. Hence, people started launching memes.
6.2 There are certain groups of traders known as speculators. Things with clear tangible value are harder to speculate on. They exist around a clear value. This is indeed a challenge for RWA. For example, a building whose value doesn’t fluctuate much might not see a lot of trading activity. Then, it will have low liquidity, the order book will become thinner, and trading activity will become even less, creating a vicious cycle.
6.3 Memes are funny and all. They are a cultural phenomenon. I am not an expert in this area. There are many die-hard meme defenders. Don't antagonize the community.
7. Finally, it’s clear that there is a lot of money in the market ready to invest. There are a lot of opportunities. You need to build something that people want.
Happy building, happy meming, and manage your risks.
CZ: “What’s going on here? I share my dog’s name and photo and people create memecoins?”
A few days later, CZ posted this question in response to Crypto Kemalon X:
Honest newbie question. What is this all about? I share my dog's name and photo and people create memecoins? How do you know which ones are "official"? Or does it even matter?
(I see a lot of people asking for names and photos.)
He got the answer:
Got an answer now. Things are working out pretty interestingly. Will ponder this for a day or two, as I always do when making big decisions. Respect his privacy, or expose the dog for the greater good? Oh well, maybe even interact with a few memes on the BNB chain. — CZ BNB (@cz_binance) February 12, 2025
…and then followed up with a message two hours ago at the time of writing, saying he would post a photo of the dog at around 8pm Dubai time (4pm GMT).
Will post a photo of the dog in 3 hours, around 8pm Dubai time. https://t.co/DkaCEDsjc3 — CZ BNB (@cz_binance) February 13, 2025
He duly published the post, and as embedded at the top of this article — a CZ coin was born.
CZ Might Have Just Promoted the Next Big Memecoin — $BROCCOLI Token
This is a turnaround for CZ, who previously expressed frustration with memecoins, arguing that they distracted people from building decentralized applications (dApps) with broad use cases.
In November 2024, CZ lamented the craze surrounding memecoins, complaining that “it’s a bit weird right now.”
Well, here we are today and things have come full circle for CZ — like it or not, he’s just become one of the biggest drivers of what may increasingly look like the next big memecoin phenomenon.
CZ essentially now believes that memecoins demonstrate people’s desire for all things crypto. In his opinion, because memecoins are hollow, they are perfect for speculation as opposed to coins with fundamental utility that might be easier to assess from a value perspective.
So back to the $BROCCOLI token memecoin – it is rising because it is attracting speculators who have been waiting for the CZ dog photo to be released.
CZ has done an excellent job of creating FOMO for this coin — and whoever is driving this latest memecoin explosion has done an excellent job of being the first to “bark.”
